50's Theme Party at InterContinental with Janie Haas Events
Janie Haas is one of Boston’s most sought after event planners. Her accolades include: Best of Boston 2013 and five-time Best of North Shore recipient. She founded her event planning company, Janie Haas Events, in 2003 and has since put on many events including weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate holiday events and special occasions.
This year Janie Haas, added to her incredible portfolio the Panera Bread 50’s theme party at the InterContinental Hotel in Boston. The party was held for the Panera Bread employees and owners. The InterContinental Hotel was the perfect venue based on it’s sleek, modern interior. Paul Melino, the head coordinator at InterContinental was a huge part of this success. The décor was created by New England’s very own PBD Events. The lighting can be accredited to greater Boston area’s ALPS. Barry Events provided entertainment and music was booked through Hank Agency. The event was a huge success! We are so lucky to have such incredible Boston vendors.
We had the opportunity to chat with Janie Haas about this amazing Boston event and learn more about how Janie Haas Events succeeds in creating these fabulous events!
Q: How were you able to create clients’ vision for this event, including incorporation of the unique theme?
A: We knew that our clients wanted to embrace the authenticity of the 1950’s. We pulled our inspiration from iconic people such as James Dean and Buddy Holly and used retro pieces such as jukeboxes, patent leather material, & saddle shoes. We added our own modern twist with a drag queen performance! Our set was inspired by 1950’s diners, beauty school drop outs, & shows like American Band Stand. We wanted Panera to Rock Around the Clock! As guest entered, they were greeted by a custom 1950’s inspired hair salon where they could partake in getting “up-dos” and it also served as a wonderful backdrop for a photo opportunity. Cocktail hour also featured a live quartette from North Shore Acapella, vintage coke machines & refrigerators as custom bar fronts, retro popcorn & hotdog machines and tables dressed in black and white patent leather linens topped with saddle shoes filled with carnations. The black and white checkered dance floor sparkled as the 4’ mirrored ball turned when guests were invited into the ballroom for dinner. Featured food items included: Big Boy Mini Burgers, Chubby Checker Chicken, Mom’s Meatloaf & Runaround Suey, all served at the custom diner façade. The “Prom” food stations offered, Coca Cola Braised Short Rib, Shrimp & Swordfish Skewers, Chicken Saltimbocca & the classic Lobster Mac and Cheese. The wait staff embraced the era and dressed with white paper diner hats and red scarves with retro glasses to really set the tone.
Q: What does Janie Haas Events do in order to create such beautiful and successful events?
A: We custom design and coordinate every detail of our clients’ special events, including weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate holiday events and special occasions, with meticulous attention to detail. We pride ourselves on making each event we execute a reflection of our clients’ style. We aim to provide exceptional client service while being sensitive to their clients’ taste, style and budget.
Q: Tell us more about themed events; is this a trend for companies you are seeing? What was your favorite part about creating this event?
A: We see themes mostly in our corporate holiday parties and mitzvahs. There is rarely a time where we see themes for weddings, but we love to embrace those couples who want something out of the ordinary. We like to get to know our clients on a personal level and really embrace their style and taste. A themed event allows us to think outside of the box and while some themes get repeated, the trick is to reinvent the experience so that each event feels unique. Our favorite part is always trying to deliver the unexpected while creating a WOW factor.
