Fairytale Fall Wedding In Upstate New York
What happens when your wedding photographer is also your friend and former colleague? Well, you get just about the best possible experience and photos from the weekend. Jess, who worked for our photographer, Brittany, married her husband, Chris, back in October in a stunning fall ceremony. The sentimental and beautiful venue, paired with personalized details, made for an amazing day.
When talking to Jess, I learned that the pair met at a gathering at a friend's house in 2019, becoming good friends. It wasn’t until one night, when some cancellations from other friends dwindled a group gathering down to just the two of them, leading to a dinner together, that they hit it off and have been together ever since. Jess mentioned that one of her friends admitted recently that she did not attend on purpose, in hopes that the pair was interested in each other. As fate would have it, she was right, and the rest is history.
Flash forward a few years, and the two got engaged when they took a dream trip to Japan together. Jess described that they went to an island known as “Bunny Island,” and just as she looked over to see a bunny, he got down on one knee. Funnily enough, she said that because she works in social media, her first instinct was to pull out her phone and capture the moment. Experience with content also led to a unique perspective on her wedding day, with Jess mentioning that she wanted someone to be able to “capture anything and everything” in a meaningful way, while they also focused on living in the moment.

The venue is a perfect example of this, as the lakefront location in upstate New York made for stunning photos that Brittany captured, while also being sentimental to the couple. Chris’ family owns the property in the Adirondacks where the pair tied the knot. Jess recalled how it became “[their] place,” over the years they dated, making it the perfect spot to get married, as they could spend quality time with the people closest to them in a place holding so much meaning.

Jess also was able to create meaning by creating DIY details, adding a personal touch to the reception. She explained that she loves tea and thrifting, so she decided to thrift tea cups, then assign them to her wedding guests based on the way that the cups reminded the couple of the person. After adding name tags to each one, she had her friend build a stand for them, in which guests could take the cups as a keepsake and then find their table number. She said that to this day, guests continue to send her photos using their mugs. This is such a sweet, personal touch that Jess, Chris, and their loved ones can remember the day by.

The images captured by Brittany and her team represent the joy and sentiment that Jess describes the day with. She said that getting to have Brittany capture the wedding after working with her was “a dream come true,” and the stunning shots of the day encapsulate this perfectly. Beyond the images, Jess loved hearing the audio from the wedding captured by videographer John. After having Brittany as a mentor, it seemed to be an incredibly touching and full-circle moment to have had her photograph the day.

BKB was honored to shoot Jess and Chris’ wedding, and cannot wait to see what the future holds. Cheers to the happy couple!
