Stunning Engagement in the Boston Seaport

From a surprise proposal abroad to the stunning photos that BKB had the honor of capturing, this engagement between Maryssa and Jack was one to remember. Maryssa has been a long-time referral of ours, as Brittany photographed two of her cousins’ weddings. Maryssa told us that she recalls “looking through their wedding albums in awe” because the days were captured “perfectly and personally” and just knew that she would want the same for herself.

While the engagement shoot took place in the Boston Seaport and then the Harbor Hotel, the surprise proposal happened during what Maryssa called “the best trip ever”. Back in April, Jack was running the London Marathon, and their close family members decided to fly in to watch him run (or so Maryssa thought). In reality, he had planned to propose right after. Long story short, after finishing the race, the two ended up in a park outside of Buckingham Palace, where he popped the question and asked her to marry him.

Everyone in the family not only managed to keep it a surprise but also made sure that every detail was exactly as Maryssa would have wanted. Maryssa recalls an interaction with her sister that is funny looking back on now, recalling how she was originally going to wear a black dress, but her sister told her that she didn’t like that one and to change into a white set that she had instead. Her rationale: the white one was just more fit for London. Anyone with a sister knows that brutally honest outfit opinions are all too common, so Maryssa probably did not even think much of this. As it turns out, the white set was perfect for the proposal. In addition, Maryssa’s mom, sister, of course Jack, and a longtime family jeweler had a hand in the ring. The entire engagement seemed lovely and well thought out, as it included those closest to the pair.

Now, it’s time to get back to the shoot with BKB and the touching story that comes along with it. It had been a rainy day in Boston, but luckily, this stopped and created what Maryssa called a “beautiful post-rainstorm sky, an empty Boston seaport, and the perfect scene” for the photos. Maryssa’s dad sadly passed away last year, and she had said earlier to her mom that maybe he would be there looking down on them during this moment. When a sunset appeared across the sky that evening, Maryssa knew that it was her dad watching out for them.

As Maryssa and Jack look ahead to their wedding, which Brittany will also shoot, they are excited to blend Greek, Irish, and Italian cultures to honor both of their families. With a Greek ceremony and a reception that celebrates all three cultures, it is sure to be a fun and love-filled day. Congratulations to Maryssa and Jack. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for these two!
